Frank Kurtis created the predecessor to the
Muntz, then left the business -- until 1954,
when he brought out the fiberglass-bodied
Kurtis 500 M. The 20 that were built carried
230-bhp Cadillac V-8s. Priced at $5800, they
were "guaranteed to outperform any other
sports car or stock car on the road."
